Things to Do
Chelmorton is an ideal place to explore the Peak District, being just 4 miles from the spa town of Buxton, with its opera house, beautiful Pavilion Gardens and lively cultural festivals and 6 miles from the lovely little market town of Bakewell, lined with cobbled streets, numerous restaurants, little tea shops and of course the famous Bakewell Pudding Shop.
We're also within easy reach of Chatsworth House with its fantastic collection of fine art, world famous gardens and a children's farm, Haddon Hall, a beautifully restored medieval manor house and the Victorian spa town of Matlock. For our younger guests, we're less than 20 minutes from the Heights of Abraham, Gullivers Kingdom and Chestnut Wildlife Centre and for our really intrepid guests, we're only 40 minutes from Alton Towers!
For those of you looking for an active holiday, there is horse riding in the Peak Park, safe, off-road cycling on the Tissington and Monsal Trails (bike hire available locally), gliding at Little Hucklow, golf at Bakewell and Buxton, climbing, archery and caving at the Indoor Activity Centre in Longnor and of course some stunning walks, from a stroll down the Wye and Goyt Valleys to a hike up Kinder Scout.
For a more laid back holiday, there are numerous pretty little villages to explore and the area is packed with stunning views including those over Lathkill Dale, Monsal Dale and the Wye Valley. Add to that some fantastic little tea shops and country pubs, a host of museums, galleries and craft centers, and you'll find there's something to appeal to all ages and tastes in the Peak District around Chelmorton.
There's a detailed guide to all the local attractions in the cottage including opening times and telephone numbers and recommendations on good local pubs and places to eat.
